LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF
More about me
Hi! I'm Ben Biesterveld. After a long career in the security industry, I've decided to take a new direction: the world of IT.
That doesn't mean leaving my previous experience behind. Quite the opposite. I'm bringing valuable skills with me: responsibility, independent working, communication and problem-solving.
My background
I have approximately thirty years of experience in the security industry. During that time, I've worked in various roles and environments.
I also ran my own security company for approximately ten years. This gave me experience not only in day-to-day operations, but also in scheduling, administration, personnel management and customer relations.
One thing I've always enjoyed is finding practical solutions. When something doesn't work properly, I want to understand why and figure out how to improve it.
Why IT?
I've been interested in computers and automation for a long time, especially how software can make everyday work easier and more organised.
In the past, I used Microsoft Excel and VBA to create my own solutions to practical problems.
Over time, that interest has grown. I enjoy investigating technical issues, learning new things and testing solutions in real-world situations.
That's why I want to develop my skills in IT support, system administration and the technical side of computers and networks.
My next step
In February 2027, I will begin the Level 3 ICT Support Technician programme at Curio in the Netherlands, combining classroom education with practical work experience through the Dutch BBL system.
I'm currently looking for a paid IT apprenticeship position where I can expand my knowledge, gain hands-on experience and contribute to a team.
I still have a lot to learn, but I bring years of professional experience, perseverance, a strong sense of responsibility and a practical mindset.
