LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

My development in IT

My decision to move into IT is a deliberate career choice. I don't just want to understand how technology works; I want to learn how to use it to help other people.

I've already gained experience with computers, automation and solving technical problems. At the same time, I recognise that I still have a lot to learn.

On this page, I'd like to share the knowledge I already have, what I'm currently working on and where I want to go next.

My current IT knowledge

Through my interest in computers and automation, I've developed various practical skills over the years.

Windows and computer hardware

I have experience installing and configuring Windows, adjusting system settings and investigating problems involving computers and peripheral devices.

Microsoft Office and VBA

I have extensive experience with Microsoft Excel and VBA. I've used these tools to develop applications that automate administrative tasks and scheduling processes.

Problem-solving

I approach technical problems step by step. First, I try to understand what is going wrong. Then I investigate possible causes and test solutions.

What I'm currently learning

While working on my web application for the local community transport service, I've become familiar with several technologies.

I also use AI as a tool to help write and understand programming code. My own contribution mainly involves identifying problems, designing practical solutions, defining functionality, testing and troubleshooting.

Web technologies

HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I'm learning how websites are structured, styled and made interactive.

Application development

C#, ASP.NET Core and Visual Studio. I'm becoming familiar with the structure of web applications and learning how different components work together.

Databases and hosting

SQLite, database structures, web hosting, domain names and application deployment. I've already gained practical experience in these areas while developing and deploying the community transport scheduling application.

My goal is to continue building this knowledge and gradually become more independent in developing technical solutions.

My education

Level 3 – ICT Support Technician

In February 2027, I will begin the ICT Support Technician programme at Curio, a vocational education institution in the Netherlands.

I'll follow the programme through the Dutch BBL pathway, which combines classroom education with paid practical work.

During my studies, I want to develop my knowledge of IT support, workplace management, hardware, software and networks.

Where I want to go

My first goal is to become a capable IT Support Technician: someone who can support users, investigate technical issues and help keep systems running reliably.

In the longer term, I'd also like to deepen my knowledge of system administration, networking and automation.

I'm looking for a paid IT apprenticeship position where I can gain hands-on experience, learn from experienced colleagues and make good use of my existing professional skills.
